If you take away the 2 hours free parking people will shop at the base
A $5 charge will drive people away from the gardens, people will stop hiring out facilities and stop going to the cafe. Charge an entry fee for the enclosed gardens instead, for non ratepayers. I volunteer in the information centre and visitors are amazed its free
We’re proposing to balance our books in 2024/25 and reset our debt-to-revenue ratio to 300% for 2021/22 then decreasing by 5% each year until 2025/26 where we will remain at 280% from 2026/27 to 2030/31. Rates are proposed to increase by an average of 8.9% in 2021/22 and 4.9% annually until 2030/31.
Find other ways to reduce debt instead of putting it on the ratepayers Eg sell off Founders and the old pools. Land is at a premium and this land could be used for housing.
We have lots of other projects included in our Long-Term Plan. We want to hear you views on any of them.
The inner city is a very sad place. I counted 32 empty shops/buildings. Make the inner city a destination place with lots of boutique shops etc. If Tirau can do it so can Hamilton. My friends and I go out of town for clothes furniture etc.
