Thanks for shaping
Hamilton Kirikiriroa together!

Shaping our city,

Paula Southgate
Mayor of Hamilton

Kia ora koutou,

Our Council remains committed to enabling and helping people to have their say on important decisions we make on behalf of our city.

When we shared our draft Long-Term Plan in March, we did all we could to encourage as much feedback as possible. More than 5,000 people took that opportunity to make considered and important submissions and to help shape our thinking about the future of Hamilton Kirikiriora.

Thank you to all of those people and groups. Your contribution is important and appreciated.

We could not do everything some people asked of us; there is simply not enough money. So we have prioritised investments which will enable our city to meet the challenges ahead, while supporting important community assets and programmes.

We have continued to prioritise core infrastructure and have also maintained a strong commitment to looking after those important city assets that we already have. We have also made some long-term investments in future-focused programmes and infrastructure. Please take a look around so you can see the plans that, together, we are creating for our city.

Ka hua. Ka puaawai. Ka ora.
Dreams are realised when people take ownership for creating, fostering and giving life to the vision.

Paula Southgate
Mayor of Hamilton

We asked

Everything we do is aimed at improving the wellbeing of Hamiltonians.

Over the past two years we have been talking to you (a lot!) to understand what you love about Hamilton Kirikiriroa and what would make our city an even better place to be.

This feedback was used to create our five priorities.

These priorities then guided our 2021-31 Long-Term Plan. This plan sets out how we will deliver on our priorities for the next decade.

From 5 March – 7 April, we asked for your feedback on our draft plans. This was your chance to share your voice and shape your city and we were excited to hear what you had to say.

You told us

We asked and you told us!

We heard from an overwhelming amount of you! Across a mixture of channels, you told us what you want for the future of Hamilton Kirikiriroa. We received nearly 6,000 formal submissions plus hundreds more comments, poll responses, messages through our social media channels and lots of great conversations at our facilities, events and meetings.

We listened

And the decisions for the next 10 years have been made!

At the beginning of May, elected members spent three days discussing your feedback.

On 24 June, Councillors adopted our 2021-31 Long-Term Plan. This sets our direction for the next 10 years but is reviewed every three years.

Let’s take a look at just some of the projects planned for our city.
